Jonathan
Coad has been a specialist media lawyer for seventeen years. Before
training as a lawyer, Jonathan graduated from Jesus College, Cambridge,
after which he spent six years pursuing a career as a professional
musician.
He
trained in the media and entertainment department of a London city law
firm, and on qualification in 1991 he joined the celebrity firm Schillings,
where he became a partner in 1994. In 2001 he joined the specialist media
firm The Simkins Partnership as a partner. From 2005 Jonathan headed up the
litigation team at specialist media firm Swan Turton. In November 2010 he
joined the MBT department of Lewis Silkin LLP where he specialises in the
law of copyright, defamation and privacy.
Jonathan
acts for a wide range of media corporations and publishers. He successfully
defended the Granada Media Group and ITV in the action brought against them
by Charlie Parsons and Castaway Productions Limited over the rights in I'm
A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here. As well as acting for a number of corporate
and individual clients in format rights disputes, he has also delivered
seminars both in the UK and Europe on format rights and protection.
Jonathan
also advises many well known personalities and organisations in the public
eye, and regularly delivers seminars on media management. He is the author
of numerous media law articles and is an expert commentator on media law
issues for television, radio and the press. He is married, with two
children, and still plays jazz professionally.
