Wayne Covell is an
entertainment and trade marks attorney based in Sydney, Australia.
After being admitted in the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1986 he
practised with a leading patent and trade mark attorney firm and then as a
specialist intellectual property lawyer for an international law firm.
He was called to the Sydney
Bar in 1991 where he
specialised in defamation, copyright, trade marks and entertainment law. In
the same year Wayne was appointed the
founding lecturer in post graduate Trade Marks Law at the University of Technology,
Sydney (UTS).
Wayne has
advised many television productions on protecting their intellectual
property and format rights. He is the executive producer of a 26 episode
children’s television series which has been shown in Australia, the United
Kingdom, Ireland,
Canada and is currently
being shown on the Disney Channel in the USA.
Articles that Wayne
has written on intellectual property have appeared throughout the world. He
is also the co-author of two books including Principles of Remedies, now in
its 3rd edition 2005 for its publisher LexisNexis.
Since 1991 Wayne
has been both a member of the Intellectual Property Law Committee, Business
Law Section, Law Council of Australia and the New South Wales Bar
Association. He is also a member of the Law Society of New South Wales and
the Australian Performing Rights Association. Wayne became a Film Commissioner in 2002.
